ISO 9001:2015 — Quality Management Systems.
The world’s most adopted management standard — clause 8.4 makes supplier control everyone’s problem.
What it is
ISO 9001:2015 defines requirements for a quality management system. Clause 8.4 — control of externally provided processes, products and services — requires you to evaluate, select and monitor suppliers against defined criteria, keep documented information of those activities, and verify purchased product before use.
Who it applies to
Manufacturers and service providers across every industry; usually the baseline certification customers ask about first.
The evidence auditors expect
- Documented supplier evaluation and selection criteria
- Records of supplier performance monitoring and re-evaluation
- Verification records for purchased products (inspections, COAs)
- Nonconformity and corrective action records involving suppliers
