SQF — Safe Quality Food Certification.
The GFSI scheme most demanded by North American retailers — with supplier documentation woven through every module.
What it is
The SQF Food Safety Code (currently Edition 9, with Edition 10 rolling out) is a GFSI-benchmarked certification program administered by FMI. It requires a documented food safety management system, HACCP-based controls, and a rigorous approved-supplier program — with certificates, specifications and monitoring records for every material supplier.
Who it applies to
Food manufacturers, co-packers and distributors selling to major North American retailers and food-service brands that require GFSI certification.
The evidence auditors expect
- Approved supplier register with risk-based approval records
- Current specifications for every raw material, ingredient and packaging item
- Supplier certificates (GFSI, third-party audits) tracked and unexpired
- COAs received and verified per your monitoring plan
- Records of supplier non-conformances and corrective actions
How ComplianceFlow keeps you ready
- The supplier register, specs, certificates and COAs live in one system of record instead of five folders
- AI grades each COA against spec and flags exceptions for review — your monitoring plan, automated
- Certificate expiry monitoring means re-audit season never starts with a lapsed supplier
